Saturday 17th August 2013

A sunny start with a slight breeze, becoming overcast and windier as the day went on. A few more migrants were about today with 15 Willow Warblers, 2 Wheatear and single Redstart & Black Redstart. Viz mig involved 27 Swallow, 17 Sand Martin, 4 Meadow Pipit and single Grey Wagtail, Yellow Wagtail, and a Marsh Harrier all heading south. Clouded Yellows were about again with 6 seen.

15 birds ringed; 9 Willow Warbler, 4 Greenfinch and single Blue Tit & Redstart.

Friday 16th August 2013

Hard graft - sitution normal. Arctic Tern was the mornings highlight. Going south 40 Swift, 28 Sand Martin, 8 Teal, 6 Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 3 Ringos, 3 Oyks, 2 Grey Plover, 2 Swallow, 2 Yellow Wags, 2 Gannet, Barwit & a GP. Raining now - which we sorely need.

Ringing single willow warbler & dunnock.

Thursday 15th August 2013

The day started with showers and a light breeze becoming stronger as the morning went on. Viz mig included 3 Grey Wagtail, 20 Swallow, 6 Sand Martin & 205 Swift all heading south. Offshore southerly movement involved 6 Oystercatcher, 13 Ringed Plover, 5 Sanderling, 3 Curlew, 10 Bar-tailed Godwit, 44 Teal, 22 Grey Plover, 2 Common Scoter, 2 Turnstone (with another 6 on the Point), 2 Golden Plover and single Tufted Duck & Redshank.

Ringing; Single Willow Warbler & Woodpigeon.

Wednesday 14th August 2013

A sunny day. A small number of migrants about today with 8 Willow Warblers, single Black Redstart, Reed Warbler & Yellow Wagtail, also seen heading south were a single Grey Wagtail and 20 Swallows. Offshore southerly passage involved 3 Redshank, 6 Little Tern and single Shelduck & Redshank. Good numbers of Clouded Yellows were seen on the Common again with about 25 seen including 4 of the pale Helice form.

Ringing; 4 Willow Warbler & 1 Linnet.

Tuesday 13th August 2013

Curlew Sand briefly on the point departed up river. Going south 80 Swallow, 32 Knot, 24 Sand Martin, 3 Oyks, 2 Yellow Wags, Redshank, Turnstone & Barwit. 2 Sparrowhawks is indicative of autumn dispersal. Black Red still here & 4 Clouded Yellows today inc 2 "helice" types.

Monday 12th August 2013

Bit more happening this am. Going south 94 Swallows, 12 Oyks, 6 Redshank, 5 Sand Martin, 3 Golden Plover & a Marsh Harrier. On site 10 Willows, 6 Lesser 'throat, 5 Whitethroat, Wheatear, Spot Fly & Tree Pipit. Black Red still knocking about the site. Shed loads of butterflies inc at least 9 Clouded Yellows.

8 ringed: 5 willow warbler, whitethroat, lesser throat, linnet.

Sunday 11th August 2013

Going south 47 Swallow, 13 Oyks, 2 Sand Martin, Whimbrel, Barwit & Marsh Harrier plus going north 17 Swallow, 3 Teal & a Gannet. In the bushes Garden Warbler was the first of the autumn. Moth traps busy with 74 Silver y's the highest count of the year so far. Clouded Yellows again on site inc a pale whitish one. Kidney-spot ladybird in moth trap.

13 birds ringed - 5 willow w., 5 goldfinch, whitethroat, garden w., greenfinch.
